DEEP DIVE
The key to finding tranquility during the holidays isn't about escaping the bustle (although that’s a perfectly acceptable coping strategy sometimes! Just take a look at the recent newsletter post for tips on how to create an Emotional Sanctuary).
Here’s one simple, guiding question to help you move through this week with intention:
Where do I see an opportunity for mindfulness?
Here’s what I mean.
While shopping or running errands, it’s easy to get caught up in looking for sales or constantly checking your list, or even chatting on the phone to try and multitask (entrepreneurs, we see you!).
Try this instead: Put your phone in your pocket or your bag. Pay attention to the sensation of your feet touching the ground. Feel the rhythm of your steps. Look up. Pause at the window. Breathe deeply.
The experience is a little different, isn’t it? That’s mindfulness.
It’s all about creating peaceful pauses.
Before entering a busy store or starting a holiday meal, take a moment to observe your surroundings. Notice the sights, sounds, and smells. These small pauses can center your mind and bring calm amidst the holiday rush.
What is “Mindfulness”?
Digging a little deeper into mindfulness and the role it can play during busy or stressful times of year, we can accept that mindfulness is the act of consciously becoming present and aware.
It’s not “clearing your mind” or “meditating” (although meditation can be a powerful piece of your mindfulness practice!).
From the APA Dictionary of Psychology: Mindfulness is awareness of one’s internal states and surroundings. Mindfulness can help people avoid destructive or automatic habits and responses by learning to observe their thoughts, emotions, and other present-moment experiences without judging or reacting to them.
Hear that? Without judging.
Routines and Plans to Provide Stability During Stressful Times
Focus on:
Regular sleep schedules
Consistent exercise times
Quiet moments for reflection
Pulling even one of these commitments into your focus is enough to make a distinct difference in your life – trust me!
Take deliberate actions to support your mental and emotional well-being. This might also mean setting and reinforcing boundaries with social obligations or creating quiet spaces in your daily schedule.
Remember that support system you’ve been cultivating? Now’s the time to reach out.
This isn't just about having people to celebrate with – it's about having companions who understand and respect your need for balance.
Don't hesitate to contact mental health professionals if holiday stress becomes overwhelming. They can provide strategies tailored to your unique situation and help restore emotional balance.

🚶♂️ Mindful Walking and Walking Meditation: A Restorative Practice
🌿 A Meditation for Exploring Your Senses
WEEKLY CHALLENGE
If you notice stress or increased pain within your body, there are a few simple movements and exercises you can engage in that resolve those feelings, reset your nervous system, and remind you that you’re safe, loved, and present.
Give these a try this week!
#1: Walking Meditation
Take 10 minutes to practice walking meditation. Focus on each step and your breath, without rushing to reach a destination.
#2: Sensory Awareness
Before any physical activity, pause for a '5 Senses' check-in. Notice something you can see, feel, hear, smell, and taste to ground yourself in the present moment.
#3: Gentle Stretching
Dedicate 15 minutes to mindful stretching or yoga. Pay attention to how each movement feels in your body and sync your breath with your movements1.
#4: Dance Break
Create a 10-minute dance session to your favorite music. Let loose and use this as a stress-relief technique while staying present in your body.
#5: Chair Movement
Practice gentle seated movements like arm circles and forward folds. Focus on how your body feels as you move, noticing which areas are stretching and strengthening3.
Remember to approach each challenge with curiosity rather than judgment, allowing yourself to fully experience the connection between your mind and body.
(Following along with last week’s Daily Challenge?)
Day 4: Nourish & Cherish
Focus on balanced holiday enjoyment:
Practice mindful eating at gatherings
Stay hydrated
Honor your body's signals
Today's Action: Pack a small wellness kit with water, healthy snacks, and comfort items.
COMMUNITY CORNER
This week, consider how you can embrace or generate community connections.
Especially if you are in survival mode, just trying to get through each day, it may be wise to engage with support groups or community activities that align with your values.
These connections can provide encouragement and practical tips for managing holiday challenges while maintaining your peace. (Need some ideas? Check out our recent newsletters on cultivating community and building your support system!)
FINAL THOUGHTS
Remember, finding peace during the holidays isn't about achieving perfection.
It's about creating moments of mindful awareness and honoring your need for balance. By incorporating these practices into your daily routine, you can navigate the season with greater ease and authentic joy.
Take each day as it comes, knowing that every small step toward mindfulness contributes to a more peaceful holiday experience. The true gift of the season might just be the quiet moments you create for yourself amidst the celebration.
